Risk Watch Introduction

What do you think about how many children are killed and injured every year by the risks (motor vehicle, fire and burn, poisoning, firearms, bike and pedestrian, water, falls, and choking, suffocation, and strangulation)? I have been involved in two of these risks. I was in a motor vehicle accident with Noah when he was less than a year old. It scared me to death! Also, when I was about 10 years old, my family went to visit some friends. They had a son who was two years older than me. He was showing off his new hunting gun (yes, I hunted frequently with my father) and pulled the trigger inside his room. He said it wasn't loaded, but it was! Do you have a story to share? Remember to keep the names to just initials or he/she. People can read and respond to your stories.

  • Once, our neighborhood was having a progressive Christmas party. Everybody went on to the next house but forgot to blow out the candles! That house caught on fire. If two teenagers hadn't driven by, the house could have burnt down.[Always supervise a burning fire!]

  • A week ago I was at home putting ornaments on our tree. We had just gotten back to my house and my brother and his girl friend were with us. She had driven sepretly and they were going back to her house in two different cars. They were driving down a road two minutes away from her house. My brother was behinde her when all the sudden she hit the brakes. A dog had run out in the middle of the street. It was still wet on the road, and when my brother pressed his brakes, his car skidded sideways and hit her care in the back. I was so scared when I heard what happend, but was releved when I heard they were both alright.

  • I think risk watch is good because I don't want anybody to experience what I have experienced. One time I was riding my skateboard and I fell off . Then ,BAM! My tooth went through my lip .I had to get my tooth capped and seven sticks inside and outside of my lip sincerly ,G.W

  • In the Summer of 2003,when I was camping I learned how to ride a bike. While rideing I had an accident on my bike. If I wasn't wearing my helment I could have got hurt badly.

  • I was in a wreck and a young girl slammed the back of us .It was scary.

    So buckle up! Be safe!

By Anonymous Anonymous, at 3:52 PM

  • I think all kids should be made to wear helments just to be on the safe side. Because any thing could happen./ Also I think everybody not just kids should wear a seatbelt in the car, plane, and every were else.Because there is no telling when you will have an accident.

By Anonymous Anonymous, at 4:20 PM

  • When I was about 8 I was riding my bike when suddenly BAM!I fell off my bike.Although I didnt feel a thing when I looked down I (I did not cry) groaned at what I saw there right where my knee bone was here was a big bloody spot as big as a mans fist.
Then there was a time when I was 7 and doing a crazy trick on my scooter when BAM!I fell off and I had a bloody nose and 2 badly scraped hands(I cried)
Then there was also a time when I choked on a hamburgers in 2nd grade.I was saved by a lunchlady!

  • once my friend was over at my house
and her mom was coming to pick her up.(We have a really steap drveway)
while she was talking her car went down the driveway with a 4 year old in it! He wasen't hurt because fortuanatly he was wearing his seat belt.Even though nobody got hurt it was really scary.
I had just walked right behind it!
thats why you should always wear a seat belt because you never know when you might have an accident

By Anonymous Anonymous, at 8:43 PM

  • On my 8th b'day, Iwent to the beach. My brother couldn't go with us, because he had to stay for a band program. He called us as soon as we got to our hotel, and told us that it was cancelled. The reason why was because a band member got shot, beacause (his girlfriend said) she sat on a pillow and the gun was under that and shot him.

  • My teacher told us the other day about a time that she was at a party. She said that she saw a gun on the counter and thought that it was plastic. She was about to give it to one of the children, when her mother-in-law ask her what she was doing. Later on she told my teacher that it was a real gun. They found out that one of the relatives at the party put it on the counter. She said that her mother-in-law got soooo mad at him.

  • About a month ago my sister almost got hit by a train. She was on her way to school and started to drive over the railroad tracks when all of a sudden she realized that a train was coming. It scared her sooo much! She was about to jump out of her car when she realized the train was on the track right in front of her. My aunt was a few cars behind her and couldn't see everything that was going on. She thought my sister had gotton hit. My aunt called her crying. When my sister reassured her that she was ok my aunt stopped crying. It was very scary! Remember not to go on a traintrack unless you know there is't a train coming!!!!!!!!!

  • The fire department checked my carseat the other day. We found that my car seat was not safe for my 2 year old. They gave me another one and installed it in my car. He is now safe when we are on the road. Please make sure that if you have little ones in your family that they get their carseats checked by the fire department. It is free!!!!
